Health and welfare-oriented urban planning

With the advance of a super-aging society, Japan is expected to lead the world in becoming a successful model for health and longevity. Recent studies on the elderly indicate the importance of daily exercise for long and healthy lives and its close relation to city planning and urban policies.

NSRI takes advantage of the expertise of the Nikken Group in city planning and the development of urban spaces and collaborates with experts in the fields of health science and gerontology research to provide consulting services on urban spaces that contribute to health and longevity.

One example of such measures is the development of walkable cities. What type of urban space would provide motivation to people to walk? NSRI uses big data on cities to propose scientific-based and specific spatial images and methods for this type of urban development.
