Summary
Project description
District heating and cooling (DHC) was first introduced in Osaka in 1970 when the Osaka Expo was held. To commemorate its 50th anniversary in 2020, a symposium was held in February that year at which its long-term vision was announced. In this project, we provided support for the formulation of this long-term vision from various perspectives, including social changes and challenges in the situation surrounding the environment and energy, DHC solutions, the role of DHC in the run-up to 2030, and the evolution of DHC in preparation for 2050.
Technical features
Our proposal envisioned DHC as a “District Total Service (DTS)” in the future. This calls for expanding the energy network while accepting diverse sources of energy; collecting various data and using this data for creating community-centered services; and working with the community to decarbonize society and promote vibrant town development.
